About Long Crendon

Long Crendon is a picture postcard village of thatched cottages hung with rich foliage strung out through a myriad of winding leafy lanes. It has a history stretching back to Saxon times, and was mentioned in the Doomsday Book as "Crededone". Throughout the centuries its manor has passed through various hands, until today when the Marquis of Buckingham is lord of the manor of Long Crendon.

The village church of St.Mary the Virgin was built in 1235. It is a fine church, possible best known for its outstanding Dormer monument to Sir John Dormer and his wife who died in 1626.

The rural landscape is watered by the River Thame on which the village stands. Visitors to the village can see the national trust property, The Courthouse, and visit nearby Thame, which is within easy driving distance. The Buckingham Railway Centre lies around twenty miles to the north, and Waddesden Manor NT can be found a short drive away.

This is a delightful village to stroll around, it has an excellent village pub and the usual village amenities.
