About Melbourne

Attractive small market town with a confection of quintessentially English thatched and whitewashed cottages and Georgian houses, dotted around ancient lanes and old streets. There is a delightful parish church of Norman origin showing wonderful carved Pillars and other interesting relics. There are the ruins of a 14th-century castle and nearby Melbourne Hall was once the home of Queen Victoria's first prime minister Lord Melbourne. The Hall was built around a medieval house in the 17th-century. It is set in lovely grounds with a wrought-iron pagoda, there are pleasant woodland walks amongst rare trees and shrubs.

Set in the beautiful rolling Derbyshire countryside, the town has pleasant shops and welcoming inns and restaurants. With its wealth of delightful properties and gardens, this charming town makes an interesting day out at any time of year.

Near-by attractions include Calke Abbey and Staunton Harold Hall. Donington Park is within easy driving distance as is the Grand Prix Museum.
