About Mugginton

This is a popular Derbyshire village with a church dating back to the Doomsday Book. In the churchyard to All Saint's visitors can see a hollow yew tree which is thought to be over 1,000 years old. There is much in the church to interest visitors with parts dating to the 11th century. The village flourished from a tiny settlement to a village under the ownership of Henry de Ferrers, by the time of Doomsday it had both a church and a mill. Also of interest is Halter Devil's Chapel, a small chapel built into the side of a house about which a number of local legends exist.

Visitors will find attractive cottages, handsome houses - some clad with Virginia creeper. There is a local village inn and pleasant recreational grounds. Mugginton is reached by passing through both Brailsford and Mercaston, and is approximately seven miles to the north of Derby.
