My wife and I spent a week in 2009 in the cottage behind this house (Monks Thatch) before we moved to Budleigh Salterton in 2010. You've caught it well, Pat.
It is said that Monk's Thatch was built using the dressed stone that was left behind when the building of the Mansion belonging to The Park of Otterton was abandoned. That explains why nobody has found any trace of the Mansion's location.
