The Neo-Palladian Chiswick House in West London

Chiswick House is considered to be one of Britain's finest examples of a Palladian Villa and was designed and built by its owner and first occupant the Earl of Burlington in the early 18th Century. Inspiration for the design clearly came from Palladio, with some details from Inigo Jones. Several generations enjoyed the Chiswick House life, but in later times it fell from grace, to be an insane asylum and later a fire station. In WWII one of the wings took a direct hit from a German V-2 rocket. More recently much renovation has brought the House and gardens back to their former glory.
