Description

Rushton Triangular Lodge

Designed by Sir Thomas Tresham and built between 1593 and 1597, this intriguing triangular building has three floors, three triangular gables on each of three sides, trefoil windows and nine gargoyles. The exterior is covered in trefoils, three to a row and the solitary central chimney has three sides.

What an amazing building, nicely recorded in this set of images. Sir Thomas Tresham, a Recusant Catholic, reputedly built this structure as a defiant affirmation of belief in the Holy Trinity, contrary to the prevailing anti-Catholic fervour of Elizabethan England.
