Faringdon Town Hall

Faringdon Town Hall dates from the late 17th century. It was saved from demolition after WW1 by the daughter of William Morris after she wrote to the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings which her father founded. It was then designated as a war memorial, making it immune to demolition. The building has also been used as a Fire Station, Library, and Red Cross shop, and was said to have at one time incorporated a jail on its ground floor.
