Description

A village street in Aldbourne

Aldbourne is a large and pleasantly attractive village lying in a valley within the south slope of the Marlborough Downs. The tiny River Aldbourne, a winterbourne, flows south-east from the village along the valley towards the River Kennet about four miles away. Aldbourne is bustling with shops and a couple of popular pubs and with the B4192 Swindon to Hungerford road passing through the centre. Roads lined with attractive little period cottages lead from all directions to the village centre where there is an area known as The Square and the village pond. This dates from the 18th century or earlier and it was given a concrete base late in the 20th century.

Many congratulations on your efforts to document so many villages. I have enjoyed looking through your websites. You have some excellent photographs but sadly quite a few suffer from heavy shadows hiding detail. Our eyes have a much larger dynamic range than cameras but this can be improved either in camera or with editing software such as photoshop. Unfortunately the cameras you have used do not appear to have such a facility so I would recommend you invest in photoshop or the like. I feel sure this would greatly improve your shots and match the undoubted efforts in documenting each village.
