Richard Reginald Goulden: 'Spirit of Youth', Malvern

Commemorating the fallen of the 1914-18 and 1939-45 wars, the bronze upright elongated figure of a young winged male stands on top of the granite pedestal, holding up a torch symbolising freedom in his raised arms. He is naked apart from a loincloth, with coils of barbed wire around his ankles that fall onto the base below his feet as if he were about to step free from them. The sculptor is Richard Reginald Goulden.
