The Frink Statue near the Abbey Ruins, Reading

The robed statue standing alone in the walled garden near to the Abbey Ruins is a copy of the figure of Death in the Dorset martyrs trio by Elisabeth Frink. I do not know for certain why this statue was placed here, but the connection may be that the Dorset Martyrs were executed for their Catholic Faith, as was the last Abbott of Reading, the Blessed Hugh Faringdon, who is numbered amongst the English Martyrs.

He does look like he's trying to escape from somewhere or someone.
