About Sewerby Hall

Sewerby Hall is a magnificent manor house situated about 2 miles north-east of Bridlington. The manor is the focal point of beautifully landscaped grounds, it was built in 1714 by John Greame and remained the family seat for many generations.

The house is a gem of a property, it sits on cliff tops with spectacular view overlooking the delightful sea-side resort of Bridlington. It has superbly panelled rooms housing a wealth of treasures including paintings, fine furniture and a brilliant display dedicated to Amy Johnson, the Hull pilot who entered the history books in 1930 when she flew solo from England to Australia. The flight, in a two year old Gypsy Moth covered 10,000 miles and took 19 days to complete. Amy Johnson opened Sewerby Hall in 1936, after it had been purchased by Bridlington Corporation in 1934. Sadly, in 1941 the aircraft she was flying came down over the Thames estuary and her body was never recovered. Her huge collection of memorabilia to with her career, life and times, was presented to Sewerby Hall by her father in 1958.

The gardens surrounding the hall are of great botanical interest, there is an old English walled garden, a rich collection of stately trees, sweeping lawns full of vibrant, colourful flower beds, shaded walks in woodland, a pitch and put golf course and a putting green. To the rear of the house there is a children's zoo, this has a family of monkey's, penguins, birds, and Llamas. The zoo is a great place for children, particularly at feeding time!

During the summer months the grounds play host to several outdoor events, these include Summer Fairs, Medieval Jousting, Band Competitions and Morris Minor Car Rallies.

Visitors will find a pleasant Tea-Room in the Clock Tower, a shop for souvenirs and a craft gallery.

The Gardens and Zoo are open throughout the year, with the manor being open from March until the end of October.
