The Anglo/Dutch wars 1662-1674 were fought at Sole Bay off the coast of Southwold (known as Sole) in Suffolk'   James(11) was Lord High Admiral of the Fleet and conducted his operations from his headquarters at Sutherland House in the High Street where he mostly lived for ten years.   This fine Elizabethan House is still standing where he is commemorated.
