At the same time, Governor John Connelly was injured in the attack on the motorcade in Dealy Plaza. Shortly afterwards, Dallas police officer Tippet was also gunned down after stopping a suspect of the shooting.

Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for suspicion of the murders of the President and Officer J D Tippett. He continually proclaimed his innocence until he himself was killed in the basement of Dallas police station by Jack Ruby. Aboard the flight back to Washington, Vice-President Lyndon Baines Johnson was sworn in as the President of the United States.
