The distance is 1,074 miles, am I correct in thinking that a woman name Barbara Moore walked it?

I took this from Google for a cycling tour, re- reading it I see the route depends on which way they do the journey according to where they stop overnight

There seem to be a number of answers to this Peggy.

If you were a crow (lol) it is about 603 miles or 970 km.

Or the signboard at John O Groats states it is 874 road miles, about 1406 km to Lands' End

A check on the sat nav just now shows a distance of 837 miles and a trip time currently---overnight---of  13 hours, 58 minutes. Went to both places in the early 1970s, and was horrified to find the cost of petrol in Scotland was 29p per gallon. Total trip over 3 days from London to John O'Groats via the western Highlands was around 2000 miles wandering about.

There is a photo on POE, submitted by Stephanie, of the sign at Land's End which also gives the distance to John O'Groats as 874 miles
