A Combe is a Valley or hollow in the hills. Lots of British places called Combe something-or-other!

"a valley enclosed on all but one side" Similar to the American "Canyon" only nicer and more green!

Yes, Andy, we are aware that canyons are ugly. But then where would the posse be able to corner the rustlers but in a box canyon?
