Yep, that's the one Vince. I was sat reading through a tourist leaflet last night and I came across it, after a double take thinking it a misprint I checked on the internet, and sure enough Tiree it is. Well done and over to you Smile

That one is a surprise, had to follow a few hunches to get there.

I have a quizzy in mind but want to check a couple of things first.

           Thank you Ruth.

OK,  In 1986 a peace treaty was signed to end a state of war that had lasted for 335 years between what two peoples and what was unique about this war?

I don't know which war yet, but I suspect no one ever drew arms against the other side, or didn't even know they were at war.

The Isles of Scilly ring a bell here, but I'm not sure who the dispute was with, I'm thinking it's somewhere in Europe ? I've read this somewhere and I'm sure it was when we were in Cornwall.

And you have indeed thought right, it all started towards the end of the Civil War ( not the one we first think of called The Anarchy between Stephen and Maud/Matilda ). The Dutch favoured the Parliametarians and when the Cavaliers retreated toward the West country and one of the Dutch ships sank near the Scillies for which the Dutch blamed the people of the Isles of of Scilly whereby the Admiral of the fleet declared a state of war which lasted all those years. There has been debate whether the state of war was valid but either way it was resolved in 1986.

Well done Ruth,  is it your police training that has given you this long and retentive memory?

Thanks Vince, I've had this long retentive memory for as long as I can remember, it got me into jobs in the Police which often I wasn't qualified for, murder incident rooms mainly.  Thing is now I'm getting older things come back in sections rather than all at once.

I'll have a think and be back Smile
