About Burns Cottage

Hidden in the heart of a magnificent Scottish landscape this humble thatched cottage is a Mecca for visitors and devotees to the works of Scotland's famous poet, Robert Burns. It is the home in which he was born on a cold winters day of January 1759.

Set in a matchless spot amidst countryside now designated as the Burns National Heritage Park, the cottage offers visitors a peep into the past where you can meet the Burns family and see for yourself what Scottish life was like in the mid-18th-century. It also gives the opportunity for you to see for yourself the unique Robert Burns Collection.

Everything here is centred upon Burns, his life, work and times. You can step back in history crossing auld Brig a' Doon where Tam's mare escaped from the witches and from the roof of Burns Monument you can enjoy stunning views of the Ayrshire countryside.

This is the home of the annual Burns Festival held in May each year. The festival offers a unique insight into Burns history and power and at the same time celebrates the very best of Scottish Culture through music and theatre. Other interesting events take place throughout the year.

To complete your enjoyment of this truly atmospheric place there is a gift shop and a licensed restaurant where you may sample a wee dram!

Burns National Heritage Park and Cottage is open all the year round.
