| Patrick Hogan(19th June 2015)Almost worthy of an Apple screensaver...... Great shot. |
| Patrick Hogan(14th June 2015)It looks like a 'model village'......... great shot. |
| Patrick Hogan(9th June 2015)Certainly captured the beauty of walking in the Peaks......
|
| Patrick Hogan(9th June 2015)Is this another shot in Raw ? Looks like you have managed to extract the detail in the shadows. |
| Patrick Hogan(28th May 2015)Giving you 4 stars but an extra star for bravery,,,,,,,,,, No way would I ever get in a cable car.The disant mountains are the 'icing on the cake' |
| Patrick Hogan(28th May 2015)Great shot with good composition...... Those wings are just amazing. |
| Patrick Hogan(27th May 2015)I much healthier tree than mine.......... I remember years ago when I was about 12 years old I took my mother a large bunch of the flowers home and put them in a vase. When she saw them she said " oh no" and immediatly threw them out, apparently they are unlucky and I could not understand why ! |
| Patrick Hogan(27th May 2015)Interesting use of the reflective quality of the unusual font........ |
| Patrick Hogan(26th May 2015)What about the ones in the middle......... If they had a panic attack how long would it take to get out ?

| Patrick Hogan(16th May 2015)No need for zoom lens here.......... perfect capture. |
| Patrick Hogan(14th May 2015)This image has so much and has be carefully taken..... I love the ladders that rise from the water. |
| Patrick Hogan(14th May 2015)I love the perspective shown so well by the building on the left that carries on into the church, also echoed in the flower beds. |
| Patrick Hogan(14th May 2015)Great shot of a cheeky Robin......... |
| Patrick Hogan(13th May 2015)Hi David, I had to go for the high ISO because it was a overcast day and the horse was in a stable that had a protruding canopy over the front. I think the lack of light helped in a way because there were no harsh shadows to contend with. The actual aperture used was f5.6 (not sure why it says f2.8) which is very near the 'sweet spot' of the lens I was using. I had to go for 1/1600 because it was handheld and this gave me the sharpness.
Lastly and most importantly the D800 performs brilliantly under high ISO conditions, all the reviews highlight this fact. |
| Patrick Hogan(10th May 2015)I have to agree with Dave........ It just looks out of focus. |
| Patrick Hogan(10th May 2015)A great shot........... and if you look carefully yo can see walkers who have just entered the shot. Certainly a good place to build a castle. |
| Patrick Hogan(9th May 2015)Can only be described as 'STUNNING'....... |
| Patrick Hogan(9th May 2015)I like the effect of the narrow depth of field......... it adds a softness to some of the flowers |
| Patrick Hogan(7th May 2015)Like it a lot.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(1st May 2015)Only thing it is lacking is a witch on a broomstick !........ Great shot. |
| Patrick Hogan(29th April 2015)It's hard to believe that nature created something that beautiful........... Thanks for capturing it. |
| Patrick Hogan(29th April 2015)Hi Martin, I think adding to a shot certainly falsifies the true scene but removing something that makes the image disjointed is probably acceptable. |
| Patrick Hogan(29th April 2015)I think Vince has said it all........... Brilliant. |
| Patrick Hogan(27th April 2015)I once battled in my narrow-boat upstream under that bridge against a very strong flow. It was in the winter and I had to spend a month waiting for lock repairs downstream and Goring was a good place to moor and wait. |
| Patrick Hogan(27th April 2015)That is a 'Carpet'........ wonderful to see. |
| Patrick Hogan(24th April 2015)Brilliant to see one from a safe distance......... |
| Patrick Hogan(23rd April 2015)Hi Dave, It was almost completely dark with no moon......... I did use a tripod.
|
| Patrick Hogan(19th April 2015)The wide angle certainly gives the opportunity for a great composition........ the eye moves around the picture and lights on the starry sun. |
| Patrick Hogan(18th April 2015)This images has so much.......... With the distant fells being ' the icing on the top' |
| Patrick Hogan(11th April 2015)Superb image, love what the sun and sea has done to the wood. You have captured that beautifully. Exposure spot on ! |
| Patrick Hogan(9th April 2015)I love the ship in what looks like a magnifying glass formed by the top of the anchor. it certainly get your eye returning to it ! |
| Patrick Hogan(8th April 2015)Maybe the small beck we can see is the upper part of the River Esk ? If it is , I have walked on the footpath that follows it and it does go to Scafell I think. Great shot by the way and it was a pity you never made it last time due to the adverse road condition.
|
| Patrick Hogan(7th April 2015)Superb and very surreal........ |
| Patrick Hogan(7th April 2015)Wow, Great to just catch a glimpse of the snow.......... Given more time perhaps you could have climbed up and checked the depth !
Great pic by the way. |
| Patrick Hogan(6th April 2015)This is superb.............. The delicate vignette adds so much to this image. (having said that it might be just the natural light) |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd April 2015)SUPERB....... In every way. |
| Patrick Hogan(2nd April 2015)Hi, Having tried to take one on the day I immediately realized there was a problem with yours........... Then I checked and saw that if the eclipse was seen in London it would only be 84.5%. |
| Patrick Hogan(1st April 2015)And what a coincidence that it was uploaded here on the 1st of April.........
|
| Patrick Hogan(20th March 2015)On very last trip when I was delivering my narrowboat I traveled through here. It brings back some happy memories of my years spent on the waterways of England. |
| Patrick Hogan(20th March 2015)Got to give you 5 stars for that .......... Just wait till you see mine and you will understand why ! |

| Patrick Hogan(22nd January 2015)Perfectly captured.......... wish I had taken it ! |
| Patrick Hogan(22nd January 2015)On reflection I am giving it XXXXX stars...... The more you study it the better it gets. |
| Patrick Hogan(22nd January 2015)Not a shot you can capture every day of the year........... Thanks for sharing .
|
| Patrick Hogan(11th January 2015)Great shot, love the distant hills that look like a painted backdrop........ |
| Patrick Hogan(11th January 2015)Shooting RAW and using Photoshop Camera Raw can get amazing results with detail in shadows without increased noise. Having said that the silhouette created in your shot works well, but the jetty could be improved with the selective brush tool. |
| Patrick Hogan(10th January 2015)Superb shot........... I might have been tempted to pull just a little detail out of the shadows. |
| Patrick Hogan(7th January 2015)Yes, a great shot.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(6th January 2015)I love the mist and trails in the sky.......... great picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(2nd January 2015)Lighting and colours are perfect........... The only negative for me is the tree in the middle of the shot. Needs uprooting and placing to the left ! |
| Patrick Hogan(30th December 2014)Beautiful in every way....... |
| Patrick Hogan(16th December 2014)Amazing birds............ Great shot. |
| Patrick Hogan(14th December 2014)Yes a superb image....... It would be interesting to know the history of the building. Maybe it was a Bank in a previous life ? |
| Patrick Hogan(10th December 2014)Brilliant use of colour..... Love it. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th December 2014)Not even a satellite dish in sight !........ however a couple walking their dog would have added a human element to what is a beautiful scene. |
| Patrick Hogan(26th November 2014)Perfectly timed shot......... love it . |
| Patrick Hogan(25th November 2014)Superb.......... Made all the better by the high tide ! |
| Patrick Hogan(19th November 2014)A superb image.......... in every way. |
| Patrick Hogan(13th November 2014)Oh to be sitting on those seats , looks a wonderful spot to relax. |
| Patrick Hogan(7th November 2014)Superb...... |
| Patrick Hogan(1st November 2014)For me this is the best.........so much detail to enjoy in this picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(20th October 2014)I took this video of them crossing,a bit shaky because of the wind...... Best watched in HD. http://youtu.be/8_ulEnbLPR0 |
| Patrick Hogan(20th October 2014)Great image, but the title needs some work, we do not need to know it is image 5410 . Easily fixed with an edit. |
| Patrick Hogan(17th October 2014)Great light on the cliff face..... |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd October 2014)More than 5 stars needed here........ The best sunset image I have seen for a long time. |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd October 2014)Great picture......... |
| Patrick Hogan(29th September 2014)Hi Steve, I am not too keen on this heavy processing....... There is a halo between the landscape and the sky. |
| Patrick Hogan(11th September 2014)The slight cloud over the sun has reduced it's glare...... a great shot. |
| Patrick Hogan(11th September 2014)Just perfect.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd September 2014)I love Sunsets, this is an image I would have been very proud of .........

| Patrick Hogan(26th August 2014)Certainly a captivating composition, even down to the tractor tracks in the distant field. |
| Patrick Hogan(26th August 2014)Great shot......... |
| Patrick Hogan(17th August 2014)Edward is right in all respects......... Brilliantly taken. It would make a super horsemanship agility course. |
| Patrick Hogan(16th August 2014)A great 'stipple' effect on the leaves........ |
| Patrick Hogan(16th August 2014)Superb colours and certainly a picture that makes you stop and look at it ! |
| Patrick Hogan(13th August 2014)I love the sun light on the flanks of the horses........ |
| Patrick Hogan(12th August 2014)Great shot, but it looks as if it only has legs on it's left hand side ! |
| Patrick Hogan(9th August 2014)The sunset certainly gives it an edge ..... |
| Patrick Hogan(9th August 2014)I agree with Martin that the colours are a bit strong but maybe you wanted to bring the foreground out ?
A graduated efect might have been the answer or a selective use of saturation. |
| Patrick Hogan(5th August 2014)Outstanding capture...... Was it with mobile phone or heavily cropped ? |
| Patrick Hogan(5th August 2014)Perfection......... love the light. You must be pleased with this ! |
| Patrick Hogan(5th August 2014)Great colour here and perfectly captured. |

| Patrick Hogan(31st July 2014)Superb...... |
| Patrick Hogan(29th July 2014)Do you get the sunset from the seat, by the length of the shadows it looks as if you do ? Great picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(26th July 2014)Perfectly taken and processed.........A pleasure to see.
|
| Patrick Hogan(23rd July 2014)Nice processing to bring out the wonderful trees..... |
| Patrick Hogan(22nd July 2014)Superb capture, looks like great fun....... |
| Patrick Hogan(19th July 2014)Superb ........ not sure it is steam but more of a mist. Perhaps some weather expert can tell us what it is. It must be some form of water vapor. |
| Patrick Hogan(18th July 2014)Wonderful shapes formed by the bracken....... perfectly lit.
|
| Patrick Hogan(16th July 2014)I would love to stand on this spot, England at it's best.... |

| Patrick Hogan(13th July 2014)Great detail in the wood and stone.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(6th July 2014)Scary. |
| Patrick Hogan(5th July 2014)Looks as if they used the same packet of seeds that Monmouth Council use..... Love the colours. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th July 2014)Wonderful..... |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd July 2014)Beautiful image...... Love the clear still water and superb reflexions. |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd July 2014)It looks in fine condition and well fed. |

| Patrick Hogan(30th June 2014)Sorry I meant to say the other view was better and agree with Edward........ |
| Patrick Hogan(30th June 2014)I think this is the better of the 2 views........
|
| Patrick Hogan(30th June 2014)Superb......... The reflections of the reeds make this very special. |
| Patrick Hogan(29th June 2014)A magical spot....... Thanks. |
| Patrick Hogan(29th June 2014)Certainly not a track to drive down on a foggy November night ! |
| Patrick Hogan(29th June 2014)A shot that makes you want to be there.............. |
| Patrick Hogan(25th June 2014)A very interesting building with those unusual ridge vents and what look like large covered air vents/chimneys. It would be interesting to know what it was originally designed for. Great picture.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(18th June 2014)I like the way all the cranes are set ...... They seem to follow the lean of the buildings. The building 'lean' is probably unintentional ? |
| Patrick Hogan(16th June 2014)Wow...... Everything about this image is perfect. |
| Patrick Hogan(16th June 2014)Superb image............. I have been through this lock many times on the 'Emi-Lou' and seeing this lets me remember those times, thank you. |

| Patrick Hogan(9th June 2014)Perfect exposure under what was probably difficult lighting...... a superb picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(7th June 2014)Yes Vince I have stayed here and even ventured up the 'Springs Branch'that leaves the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in the very heart of Skipton. It runs for half a mile from the main canal around the back of the castle to a former stone loading wharf.I had to reverse my 60ft boat out, because only 35ft boats can turn at the end ! |
| Patrick Hogan(5th June 2014)Superb composition and a great sense of space........ |
| Patrick Hogan(5th June 2014)A great image of these much photographed 'cottages'...... I like this long shot that shows their location, with the track disappearing into the distance. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th June 2014)Superb picture of what looks like an endless carpet of bluebells. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th June 2014)Great depth of field and colour........ |
| Patrick Hogan(31st May 2014)Superb in every way............ |
| Patrick Hogan(27th May 2014)Yes, this is very good........... |

| Patrick Hogan(21st May 2014)A great pic and made even better by the high level of 'Bokeh' |
| Patrick Hogan(19th May 2014)Spot on.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(15th May 2014)Welcome, You were standing by the bottom gates of Denham Deep lock when you took this image. As a boy I used to fish on the left bank before the bank was piled, that was 60 years ago when working boats were using the canal. Your images are pushing the limits of colour saturation and I find the blues unreal, but composition is spot on. |
| Patrick Hogan(15th May 2014)Brilliant capture that clearly shows what amazing horsemanship the riders have........ |
| Patrick Hogan(15th May 2014)Reflections and composition........... Superb. |
| Patrick Hogan(12th May 2014)Great image......... |
| Patrick Hogan(10th May 2014)Looks like a very pleasant place for an evening walk........ Great picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(9th May 2014)Just perfection............ Superb in every way. |

| Patrick Hogan(4th May 2014)Perfectly framed group in natural surroundings....... love this image. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th May 2014)You could stand there for a long time savoring a view like this............ beautiful. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th May 2014)Superb........ |
| Patrick Hogan(2nd May 2014)Yes a shot full of interest........ I love the winding path ! |
| Patrick Hogan(29th April 2014)Certainly a great shot......... I love the way the lighting replicates the waves of the sea behind and the sand in front. |
| Patrick Hogan(28th April 2014)Superb viewpoint that captures this weather so well..... |
| Patrick Hogan(28th April 2014)Looks like some beautiful walking country........ I hope the rain stops and the sun comes out ! |
| Patrick Hogan(22nd April 2014)Hi David, Yes I have checked the data and it was shot at f18..... I think the f2.8 refers to the lens which is a bit disconcerting. |
| Patrick Hogan(21st April 2014)It was filmed from the other side........ Ps, Great picture with those reflections. |
| Patrick Hogan(21st April 2014)Great to see this, I used to spend my winters in Stenson Marina,,,,,,,, A few years ago the bridge partially collapsed and needed repairing. Here is a link to the video I made of 'The finding of Bridge Plate 20'...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjk0b0Y5kLM |
| Patrick Hogan(21st April 2014)Great light on the stonework and superb detail...... |
| Patrick Hogan(14th April 2014)If you had described it as a forest fire inferno you would have been spot on......... |
| Patrick Hogan(13th April 2014)Great shot....... I have moored here on my travels. |
| Patrick Hogan(8th April 2014)Just perfect............ A wide-angle lens and great composition. |
| Patrick Hogan(28th March 2014)Superb shot made by the elevated viewpoint.......... Love it !

| Patrick Hogan(18th March 2014)A brilliant shot.......... |
| Patrick Hogan(18th March 2014)Superb........ |
| Patrick Hogan(28th February 2014)Came down these some years ago in my 60ft narrow-boat. I had to take my bow and stern buttons off and be diagonal in the locks. They were designed for 57ft boats! |
| Patrick Hogan(18th February 2014)Superb............ |
| Patrick Hogan(15th February 2014)I think I recognize the spot with that tree........... Some 42 years ago I had an evening picnic there with my wife after rowing down from Farncombe in a skiff. |
| Patrick Hogan(13th February 2014)Love it.................... |
| Patrick Hogan(12th February 2014)I love the Great Ouse and this image brings back memories for me............. |
| Patrick Hogan(12th February 2014)Great shot...........
|
| Patrick Hogan(12th February 2014)Hi, I have moored on the left bank where the narrow-boats are.
The whole field is probably flooded and the towpath underwater ............ |
| Patrick Hogan(9th February 2014)Yes.......... A great pic. |
| Patrick Hogan(6th February 2014)SUPERB............. |
| Patrick Hogan(4th February 2014)Just love this........ |
| Patrick Hogan(28th January 2014)Yes I am pleased and think there are still more shots to do in 6 months time when the sun comes back. Sun behind fog or low level river mist etc. I am also working on when to get shots incorporating the moon ....... |
| Patrick Hogan(28th January 2014)My flat in Bulwark is just under the clouds top left............ Great pic. |
| Patrick Hogan(28th January 2014)This massive ship looks as if it is bearing down on the photographer ........ was it underway or turning ?
Perfectly captured.
|
| Patrick Hogan(27th January 2014)Giving it another 5 stars because I want to ask if you had to wait for the sails to get into this perfect position ? |
| Patrick Hogan(27th January 2014)I love the red reflection on the doorway......... Superb picture. |
| Patrick Hogan(25th January 2014)You must be standing on a swing bridge........ Great place to take a shot down the canal. |
| Patrick Hogan(23rd January 2014)Yes, I love the selective colour............ |
| Patrick Hogan(19th January 2014)Hazy sun, mist, reflection of swan on still water......... everything perfect. Brilliant ! |
| Patrick Hogan(18th January 2014)Zbigniew has said it.............. |
| Patrick Hogan(17th January 2014)Think this deserves another 5 stars......... |
| Patrick Hogan(16th January 2014)Like the low level light and how did you train the sheep to stand on that boulder ? |
| Patrick Hogan(12th January 2014)Taking pictures like these is very much like fishing........ Some you catch and some you don't. I used http://photoephemeris.com to find out the position to be to capture the sun. |
| Patrick Hogan(11th January 2014)This-morning the sun was incredibly bright........ |
| Patrick Hogan(11th January 2014)Great shot and revealing the dog at the expense of the clipping really works ........ |
| Patrick Hogan(10th January 2014)Hi Neil, I was only trying to find another explanation to what can be seen in Vince's picture. If you use this link and scroll down you will see what looks like a face at the window, do you think it could be the same ? http://www.spoilheap.co.uk/beanyZ/crinside.htm |
| Patrick Hogan(9th January 2014)Maybe someone was just looking through the window at the time it was taken or could it be the reflection of your wife taking the picture ? |
| Patrick Hogan(5th January 2014)Wonderful, The same sunrise I saw this morning....... |
| Patrick Hogan(31st December 2013)Excellent shot............ I might have been tempted with a tighter crop, would have given more atmosphere. |
| Patrick Hogan(30th December 2013)Amazing eyes......... |
| Patrick Hogan(29th December 2013)Superb image............ |
| Patrick Hogan(16th December 2013)Love the effect......... not to be confused with that of Tamworth Town Centre ! |
| Patrick Hogan(14th December 2013)This is what makes POE a brilliant site........... To be able to see parts of England that are so beautiful from the comfort of your chair ! |
| Patrick Hogan(14th December 2013)A beautiful image........... Not only golfers in the shot but those flying gulls a perfectly framed. |
| Patrick Hogan(9th December 2013)Superb colours and setting........... |
| Patrick Hogan(9th December 2013)Wow............ Amazing image ! |
| Patrick Hogan(7th December 2013)Hi Edward, I recently inherited some of my brother-in-law's bird photography lenses. I exchanged one for the D800 and took this with the 300mm f2.8 prime lens. This is a heavy lens and was only on a lightweight tripod. I took the image without a release cable and the mirror was not in the up position so even on timer mode the lens still shook I think. I will experiment with this view when the light is good and use it as a test piece. With a 'solid' tripod I am sure it will be improved.
The image was cropped by removing 2/3rds and when I next visit my sister in the USA I will collect the x2 teleconverter that will make the lens a 600mm f4 , this combined with the D800 should be an awesome combination.
I am sure the ISO increase would make a difference. I shot it at f11 and focused on the church which is about 0.8 miles from the shore. Maybe a smaller aperture would also help with the overall sharpness. |

No need to apologize..... Wikipedia states,Quote:- 'The current stained glass window in the chapel was designed in 2000 but used 15th-century glass.' |
| Patrick Hogan(17th September 2012)I would like to query the fact that 15th century glass has been used in this window. The Millenium window was designed by Nichola Hopwood and uses 20th century coloured glass often mistakenly called 'stained glass'. |
| Patrick Hogan(17th September 2012)WONDERFUL image............ Beautifully captured. |
| Patrick Hogan(3rd September 2012)Perfection......... |

| Patrick Hogan(26th August 2012)Hi Edward, No it is not mine !

| Patrick Hogan(15th July 2012)As Dave says it is just the worst weather ........ If you can get some basic photo editing software you can easily straighten the horizon with a crop. |

| Patrick Hogan(4th September 2010)Great to see this canal that is unfortunately not connected to the Main System. It seems strange to see the boats that can only travel about 14 miles where the Main System has nearly 2000 miles of rivers and canals ! |
| Patrick Hogan(31st August 2010)Everything is perfect................ |

| Patrick Hogan(22nd August 2010)The past week has seen many days like this....... not much blue sky around. Traditional English flower beds at their best. |
| Patrick Hogan(17th August 2010)I can see why you took this shot.......... The flower baskets are such beautiful colours. |
| Patrick Hogan(16th August 2010)It needs 5 Stars ........... Brickwork spot on horizontal ! |
| Patrick Hogan(16th August 2010)I am a lover of 'reality TV' ........ this picture is along those lines. It would be interesting to know why they were doing this shot and some thought has gone into the need for the use of a broken shopping trolley .
Your inclusion of the photographers equipment bags in the shot is so good. Love it all. |
| Patrick Hogan(15th August 2010)I would prefer the crackling on this http://www.picturesofengland.com/England/Cornwall/Helston/pictures/1123306 |

| Patrick Hogan(8th August 2010)Hi,
I crossed England from West to East some 8 years ago and i only just managed to get down the 'Bingley Five' .
My boat is 60ft long and the recommended length for this canal is 57Ft. I had to take my bow and stern fenders off and go diagonally in the lock. The whole canal runs from Leeds to Liverpool and has many swing bridges, HARD WORK when you are single handed. |
| Patrick Hogan(6th August 2010)Beautiful picture that has it all......... foreground,mid-ground, background and sky all in perfect focus and colour.
All the different trees is the icing on the cake for me. Brilliant. |
| Patrick Hogan(5th August 2010)Perfect shot............. By the way I have seen a lot of that sky over the past few days, but luckily not too much rain. |

| Patrick Hogan(3rd August 2010)Hi, I suppose copyright can be a big issue sometimes but I just think if you have already taken the picture and enjoy sharing it with others does it really matter if someone else uses it. I would feel proud that they felt it good enough to use. Thanks for your offer but I have enjoyed seeing your clean pics on the Flickr site. All best wishes , Patrick. |
| Patrick Hogan(2nd August 2010)Hi,
You have this picture here in a larger format without the copyright stuff...... http://www.flickr.com/photos/23041961@N03/3462034323/sizes/o/in/set-72157617900480370/ |
| Patrick Hogan(2nd August 2010)Hi,
You have some good pictures but why do you spoil them by the copyright stuff across the image. No one will use your pics because they are only 568px X 750px.
I do appreciate that you may upload them to other sites in a bigger format but could you not leave the copyright stuff off your pics on this site ?
regards, Patrick. |
