Witchampton 'Rest And Be Thankful' is the inscription carved around the back of this seat. It's situated under a Horse Chestnut tree, just outside the village. The old seat had become frail and damaged and the Parish Council contracted to have a copy made by a local company. It's good to see that we still have local craftsmen, who are capable of such high quality workmanship. Witchampton in Dorset A ten-minute walk from Witchampton village centre, is The Mill House on the River Allen. This modern deleopment on the site of the origanal mill retains the old sluice gates which remain in control of the mill race. At the time of the Domesday Survey in 1085 Witchampton had two grist or flour mills. These mills continued to exist in one form or another until the 20th century. Witchampton in Dorset The Parish Church is dedicated to St Mary, St Cuthberga & All Saints. St Cuthberga was a Saxon princess. Having undergone a rebuild from 1832-40 by an unknown architect, all that remains of the old church is the bowl of the 13th century font and the 15th century tower, which has four gargoyles, including one playing the bagpipes.
