Paul Hilton's Comments

East Anglian Transport Museum Carlton Colville
5 stars
Paul Hilton(19th October 2018)

he first two are Bristol VRT's. The later yellow one is like the one I passed my double decker driving test on in West London in 1988. The red one is a much earlier version that had hydraulics linking the throttle pedal to the engine. The Thames Valley one I drove a bit was near impossible to get going at any speed with this dreadful linkage and much better when they switched to air linkage.

Lovely pic Vince. They had a red one on the first episode on The Apprentice two nights ago, as a food stall. Amazing what they're asking for 2 CV's these days as well.

Indeed Edward, more specifically Strawberry Hill Gothic named after Horace Walpole's house style in Twickenham. Designed by Daniel Harris, he incorporated a castle design combined with a church. Inside are parts of the Jacobean farm house previously here, built about 1688.

Mapledurham Mill
5 stars
Paul Hilton(5th May 2015)

An interesting area to visit for many reasons. The watermill, nearby church and main house feature prominently in the 1976 film, The Eagle Has Landed. A surprising portion of Berkshire appears as East Anglia.

I uploaded the wrong version by mistake; sorry. Its history is more than I can relate here. Admiral Manley started his navy career at 13 sailing with Capt. Cook around the world. Commanded a ship during the American Revolution ( 2 of his brothers fought under General Cornwallis) and I believe one of his ships sailed with the fleet of Admiral Lord Nelson.

The shutter was pressed just as I saw him leave the feeder. A much longer focal length I've found easier to catch birds flying, say 300 to 400mm.

Perhaps it less known the connection between the Austen and Colgate families in Kent, some of whom emmigrated to Baltimore, MD. where the two names start appearing together again around Glen Coe. By the later 1800s, the Colgate family had added toothpaste to their line of products they were making.

Lovely pic of XH558. They do a tremendous amount of fund-raising to keep her flying which costs £20,000 per hour, let alone all the other costs over the year which are staggering so she can fly 40-50 hours per year. 17,000 ltrs of fuel jad been loaded for her trip to Manston via Hasting and Rye so they could see her too
