Silchester, Hampshire.

Part of the Roman defense walls that surrounded the Roman town of Calleva Attrebatum built in 45AD, with the later Church of St Mary in the background. It originally enclosed 107 acres and took about 10 years to complete, using flint and stone from a variety of sources as far away as Bath.

Silchester, Hampshire

Farm lands now occupy much of the area that once was the Roman town of Calleva. Many artifacts of Iron Age and Roman occupation have been found here and on display at Reading Museum, Berkshire.
