Ambleside(14th July 2014)

Ambleside
Lovely village in the south east Lake District right at the northern tip of Windermere but also well accessible to all parts of the area. An ideal base for touring the Lake District with plenty of walks straight from the village without needing to resort to a car. Plenty of eating places to suit all diet regimes with a good suitably good supply of drinking establishments too. Shopping is largely based on the outdoor life plus a few mini supermarkets and a fresh veg shop. If you are looking to expand your wardrobes with shirts, skirts, dresses, shoes etc you will be disappointed. There is only one general clothes shop that I am aware of. But for walking or running attire you will have myriad choice. Almost every other shop is outdoor based. Most of the pubs serve food of some description and there are plenty of smaller restaurants and cafes along with Chinese, Indian and Thai restaurants which all cater for take-a-ways. Two very good fish and chip shops in the heart of the village. 2 cinemas, one of which does food including pizza, but there is no pizza shop as such in the village. Several gift type shops and 'proper' hardware store.
5 stars - Excellent!
