About Belmont

This old village with records dating back to the 13th century, nestles in spacious countryside beneath lofty Winter Hill. It is surrounded by Anglezarke Moor and Turton Moor, with a close-by reservoir built to supply water to the population of Bolton.

Belmont is a typical Lancastrian village, in its "hey-day" it housed a bleaching and dying mill powered by the swiftly flowing waters of Eagley Brook. The mill remains fully operational, but at a shadow of its former importance. This was once a sparsely populated village, but is now built-up to accommodate residents who work in Blackburn or Bolton.

The village retains elements of its former rural charm, it has a pleasing church building - St. Peter's, this is around 150 years old, and there is an old graveyard littered with the graves and tombs of more than a century or so ago. A war memorial honours the dead of World War I and 2, there are also a number of pubs in the village these include the Black Dog Inn and The Belmont Bull.

Belmont Reservoir is home to Bolton Sailing Club, this is a lovely place offering pleasant water-side walks as well as boating and other water-sports.

Being set amongst the high hills and moorland of the Western Pennines, visitors to Belmont can look forward to lovely moorland walks with extensive views of the surrounding countryside. Winter Hill, at 456 feet is the highest point of the West Pennines.

Belmont can be found between Bolton and the town of Darwen.
