Pictures of Croxteth Hall

a Historic Building in the town of Liverpool, in the county of Merseyside

About Croxteth Hall

This magnificent Hall was once the home of the Molyneux family, Earls of Sefton, who were second in importance to the Earls of Derby. Theirs was an illustrious history, with the house being begun by Richard Molyneux in 1575. Not a great deal remains of the original Elizabethan House, this is largely due to various alterations over the centuries. The most impressive of these is the beautiful Queen Anne wing with its attractive stone dressed facade. There is also fine examples of work from the reign of Edward VII.

Today, the house stands in what is now a vast public country park covering some 500 acres, access to this is free, but for those who wish to tour the house or visit Croxteth Home Farm and Victorian Walled Garden, a small fee is charged.

The hall shows a rich collection of furniture and paintings, a grand staircase and many fine rooms. An exhibition recalls the history of the estate and its lifestyle throughout the centuries.

Croxteth Hall offers guided walks and tours, with regular events, and special exhibitions from time to time. It is a great place to visit, ideal for a lovely family day out.
