We have the same problem here, Karen. They call it the heat island effect. Thunderstorms blow up from the south and the rain just can't make it to the ground here because of the heat rising from the city with all the concrete roads, car parks, buildings. So it threatens rain, or we get dust and wind, but little if any rain. This has been the worst summer so far. The last 3 days were over 112° F with humidity. At 5 AM it's typically 90° with about 50 percent humidity. So there's no relief, not even overnight. Glad to be getting out of town for the rest of the week. Summer climate in San Francisco is much like summer in England - high 60s to low 70s with a few clouds. |

For us in Phoenix this time of year, it means top temps in double digits! Yay! They're only calling for 99° F today. We could still use a drop of rain though. I'm originally from Pennsylvania, and people in my old neck of the woods are dealing with the effects of the latest tropical storm. All the watersheds in the state are full to capacity and the rivers are flooding again, big time! A prayer or two for the USA and for all the people here who've lost homes to floods and fires this year would not go amiss.
