When I found out that my friend Brenda was diagnosed with cancer (she is doing quite well and the doctors are optimistic that she will make a full recovery), I became acutely aware of how blessed I am to be alive.

I tend to get so bogged down by my daily troubles (as real as they may be) that I forget how lucky I am to be alive to experience those problems! Lately, I find myself thinking things like: that person annoys me, but aren't I lucky to be alive to be annoyed, or, my job is boring, but aren't I lucky to be alive to feel annoyed, or, this head cold makes me feel crappy, but aren't I lucky to be alive to get a head cold! LOL!

Life, in this world at least, is finite and temporary, hadn't I better slow down and enjoy the days while they are mine to enjoy?  How many more sunsets do I have to see? How many more Christmases will I get to celebrate? How much longer will I be able to tell the people I love that I love them, or hold them in my arms, or kiss them? How many more autumns will I get to enjoy? How many more apple pies will I get to smell baking? How many more songs will I get to discover and enjoy listening to? How many more friends will I get to make? I could go on and on.

Life is precious my friends, let's be grateful that we have the gift of life even with all of it's heartaches and problems.

If I had to pick one thing to thank the Lord for, it would be my family. My husband and children who I spend every day with, they are truly the best.

I grumble about living in this little desert town, but I wouldn't want to be living in England if I didn't have my family with me, as much as I love (and I do so love it) the joy would be greatly diminished without them.

Even though I am hobbling about, and looking at another surgery (October 28th) I have eyes to see, ears to hear, a mouth to speak (gets me into trouble via my fingers I fear), and hands to touch and feel. I cannot grumble about my healthy but thank the Lord for all that I have.

All of my friends are living miles away and unable to see them but once a year, but I thank the Lord for the computer and instant access with emails, the telephone to hear their voices, their love that has lasted through so many years.

Oh yes, I am blessed, and I need to thank the Lord more than I do at present. Can't thank Him enough I say.

I agree with all the sentiments in the above posts. Life is a precious gift but we all take it for granted sometimes.

I try not to look into the future, ( it scares me a bit)  but just take each day as it comes and be thankful for it.

you are so right, life is so precious although at times it can be so hard and I think we all get bogged down with our own troubles and worries, we always think that we have tomorrow but tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, I try not to worry to much about anything because if today is my last I certainly don’t want to spend it worrying, I try to make every day count and appreciate every moment because I might never be able to experience it again, not always easy but I do try.

My outlook on life completely changed in 1999/2000 when I lost both my mum and dad, and my nephew was killed outright in a motorbike accident at the age of only 34 through no fault of his own. Having 3 funerals in 10 months made me realise how short life really is, so now I live for today. Yes I get my 'off days' too but then I think to myself well at least i'm still alive!.
