Is it any wonder she was sniffing glue?!

He looks evil, doesn't he?  Honestly, people like this are a good argument for "culling" the human population!

He protected her?

Josef Fritzl is awaiting trial for allegations of his terrible abuse. 

AUSTRIA. Josef Fritzl — charged with murder, incest, rape, slavery, cruelty and false imprisonment, accused of locking his daughter away for 24 years and raising a secret family in his cellar — has an excuse for the treatment of his kin, reports the Daily Mail. According to notes leaked from the psychologist tasked with analyzing the man, he was just trying to save his daughter from a life of glue sniffing.

“She had been sniffing cleaning fluids and I decided I should talk with her in my cellar,” Fritzl said, describing the day his daughter, Elisabeth, vanished. “Because in the coming days she showed no improvement in her attitude, I decided to keep her locked up,” he added.

For more than 20 years, Fritzl allegedly kept his daughter locked up, where he raped her as many as three times a day.    

What I don't understand is that if one of my children went missing I'm sure the schools, social services and everyone else would be on to me immediately. I can never understand how these people get away with it - Fred West was another example of someone who got away with kidnap, murder, rape, his own children disappearing and it went on for years. He was reported time and time again but nothing was done.

This man has no excuse but I still want to know how they managed to hide another family in that cellar without someone being suspicious. 

It's a good question, Stephanie.  The only answer I can come up with is that people today would rather not get involved with things like this and chose to turn a blind eye.

It's like the whole child abuse scandal in the Catholic church.  While I am in no way condoning what happened; I do find it ironic that people came out in scores to point fingers and criticize the entire priesthood for what a few sick men did, but when it comes to the suspicious behaviour among their own family members...well, they'd rather not open that particular can of worms.

It's always easier to project disturbing unwanted behavior on to others rather than deal with the skeletons in our own closets.

It's hard telling if he had her drugged up as well...to where she didn't know what one day was from the next...people get sucked into some of  the abuse they get by trying to be "good" to others...pleasing means all the world to many these days, even when in reality they might be totaly crazy the people they are trying to please...especially in the case of children. Some times the purperators threaten to harm someone they love also. there are any ways to "chain" people into subduction of one's freedom. Of course now the biggest is the threat of nomoney(livabilty) from our econimic situation....reember..good people are good.....no attachement made. I still thinksomeday they are going to find out that litle Benet girl over here was mostlikely done in my her father also.
