We are planning our second trip to the UK in September. We first came over in 2003. Because we only had 10 days that we could stay, we spent most of time in London except for a day trip to Bath. My husband was a US Marine Embassy Guard in the 70's and served briefly in London, so he was able to help us make the most of our short time there. This time we are going to drive and see all that we can in 14 days, I love all things Regency, especially the Duke of Wellington's Peninsular campaign and the 95th Rifles. So we will start our touring in Winchester and then go back to Bath. On to London for 3 days then the next part of the trip is for Lee to design. He loves the great houses of the UK so we will visit as many as we can in 7 days. Wish us luck driving on the "wrong" side of the road :)

A simple 'tip' to remember when approaching a roundabout for example that actually works. Treat all roudabouts as a clock face with three options eg quarter to twelve, twelve o'clock, quarter past twelve. Assuming there are three lanes as you approach, read the roadsigns for the area you are travelling to and if you wish to turn left stay in the left hand lane, if you wish to go straight over stay in the middle lane, if you wish to turn right, stay in the right hand lane. When the road is reduced to two lanes stay in the left lane for turning left and/or straight over, and stay in the right hand lane to turn right. There simple, have a safe journey! |

We were in England a year and a half ago and drove all around N. Yorkshire mostly. It was actually easier than I thought it would be. Ron's right about the roundabouts BTW. This is a great site to surf around in anticipation of your trip.

As I remember it was called 'The Blue Ghost'? as it kept returning to port after being reported as sunk! Have fun on the roundabouts & if in doubt take the outside lane!
Best wishes.... Paul |

Standing for Pictures of England, not trying to sound dumb, but I didn't catch on at first. Anyway welcome, I love this website. So many beautiful pictures, the sceneries are outstandingly beautiful, the poe family, has been so good, and polite to me, as they will be to you. Remember everyhting you type/write in the threads millions of people see, enjoy yourself in here, but still be careful. As the whole world is watching. Ron and Michael, are very helpful, as others are to. Welcome to Poe. |
