Otter Swan

The River Otter enters the sea via Ottermouth at Budleigh Salterton. This swan seems unconcerned with all the other ducks and gulls around.

An old gate has broken and been covered by vegetation. Abandoned.

Budleigh Salterton's sea wall

This should show how the pebbble wall of Budleigh Salterton is made and is an answer to Raymond Thurlsby's request for a detailed view. Should the tide reach over the top of the beach pebbles there would be nothing really to stop it's progress over this sea wall.

Budleigh moss

It is said that a rolling stone gathers no moss. Quite evident in Budleigh Salterton on this bridge parapet.

Budleigh cliffs

The gulls glide effortlessly around Budleigh's cliffs in the breeze. The red cliffs are Triassic and older than the Jurassic cliffs found to the east of Budleigh.

Birds over Ladram Bay

Ladram Bay is very near to Budleigh Salterton and Otterton and all form a part of Lyme Bay. Gulls are quite numerous in Lyme Bay and when the wind is breezy they take advantage of the gusts and lifts whilst circling in the sky.

Budleigh pied wagtail

Budleigh Promenade has bathing huts in the summer months, but when they are taken away the poor pied wagtails loose their summer homes.

Along Budleigh's Promenade the rain has caused a miniature landslide in the red cliffside.

Budleigh egret

This white egret was fishing as I watched. His reflection was dithering when his bill struck the surface. Reeds nearby got in the way a little, but blurred nicely being closer to the lens.

Rain in Budleigh

There has recently been a LOT of rain in Budleigh Salterton and things have been grey and damp quite a while. It does, however, keep everything green looking - but does get tiresome.

The road to White Bridge has a lovely vista of fields, trees, hills, sky, birds and colours that all blend naturally - but only on occasions does it happen altogether.

Umbrella Cottage

Part way up Fore Street Hill a white, thatched building stands out prominently. Umbrella Cottage is named for its thatched roof which supposedly looks like an umbrella.

The Granary

An old lane of Budleigh which leads to the Saltings car park is called Granary Lane. This house is formed from the granary and looks very modern and comfortable now, hiden by trees.

Fore Street Hill is now one way but in the olden days it was the main road into Budleigh Salterton before West Hill was opened.

On the way to The White Bridge it is a dead end road for cars. Walking along it and looking north when the sun is shining in a stormy sky, you may see this scene. It caught my eye this morning.
