Budleigh's grey skies and new flag and pole The clocks changed from BST last night so I was on the beach an hour earlier this morning in GMT. It was still raining and with the grey skies and rain we got a bit damp. The new St George's Cross on its new flag pole was fluttering away as we left the promenade for home. West view from Budleigh Salterton Looking westward across the mouth of River Exe the silver sea sparkles under a dark, moody sky. Holes in the grey clouds lighten patches of sea, with Dartmoor brooding on the far horizon. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Budleigh sea swan Look carefully and you can see a single swan in the sea off Budleigh's pebbled beach. There were two swans but one vanished and the lonely partner drifts aimlessly in the Otter and along the coast. Very sad. Budleigh rainbow A rainbow brightens up an otherwise dark sky. The rain didn't wet the ground much but certainly made the cloud look dull. The road in front of us is Granary Lane leading to the sea and Promenade. This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 70D |

Storm Alex over Budleigh Storm Alex swept over Budleigh Salterton one afternoon. The storm threw lots of rain and strong winds lashed the sea into frenzy. Eventually the dark clouds lessened and we saw white fluffy edges with patches of blue sky. The bottom clouds were still dark, however, and the sea was rough. Which way from Budleigh Salterton? The sign say to Otterton and East Budleigh. The footpath runs northward beside the River Otter and on a lovely day like this it is very pleasant. If you're lucky you may glimpse a Kingfisher in the bushes or even a beaver or otter in the river if you're very lucky. Budleigh Salterton, Otter Mouth The Otter Mouth at Budleigh Salterton is a wonderful place to see how tides, rivers, rocks and weather mix together in harmony. Budleigh's Fairlynch Museum Built around 1810, the building that now houses Fairlynch Museum and Arts Centre was built by local ship-owner Matthew Lee Yeates. It was then called Primrose Cottage. Typical of a marine cottage orné, an unusual feature is the double-wing staircase and the thatched turret, or belvedere, is said to have been built so that Yeates could see his ships out in the bay.
