On Budleigh's Green stands a tall tree. In a scar made by a fallen branch sits an owl that glares at passers-by, all day and all night.

Pebbles and a Budleigh bear

As a way to pass time during the recent Covid days, visitors have been painting pebbles and forming a display in support of the NHS. Somehow a teddy bear has infiltrated this display of painted pebbles.

Budleigh winds

The flag is straining its tether but the pole stands fast. Storms are gathering and people are sheltering, the car park is virtually empty. Strange for August in Budleigh Salterton.

Budleigh Waves

The wind is whipping the sea as it crashes onto the pebble beach. The red cliffs are being washed as high waves are dashed on them. The sun's rays catch and light a portion of the red cliff in a warm glow. The holiday makers and residents are nowhere to be seen, no swimmers today.

Budleigh Fishermen

Here we see a fishing boat returning to Budleigh Salterton with its morning catch. Also, a lone fisherman can be seen at Ottermouth casting his rod and line. Another fisherman is busy with his boat on the left beach shoreline. It was a hot morning leading to a very hot day in August.

Sun over Ottermouth

The River Otter rises in Somerset and travels a southerly direction to discharge at Ottermouth, Budleigh Salterton. This shot was taken on a scorching August morning from the western end of the Promenade which is high above the beach near the golf course. The sun looks hazy, but it was really hot.

Oak Eggar in Budleigh

This moth was clinging to our door frame one morning having been attracted by our night light. It turned out to be an Oak Eggar moth.

Budleigh beetles

I nearly ran over these beetles that looked as if they were doing a spot of leap frogging. I managed to leave them to their enjoyment by riding over them wheels straddling either side of them.

Wind and rain blended with a stormy sea at Budleigh Salterton. Walkers along the Promenade were getting rather damp today!

Tidwell and Kersbrook

A view of Tidwell Hall in centre frame and in the lower frame are roofs of some of Kersbrook Village buildings. Kersbrook Road links the two locations directly and is one of my pleasant and frequent dog walks.

Budleigh Saterton rooms with views

Fore Street Hill in Budleigh Salterton is a steep hill with buildings on both sides. When you look on the higher side you can see the houses that have rooms with views.

Budleigh Salterton buildings.

Ragg Lane in Budleigh Salterton links Fore Street and Brook Road. On the corner of Fore Street and Ragg Lane is the RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter shop that sells clothes, rags and bric-a-brack which makes Ragg Lane aptly named.

Budleigh beach huts in lockdown

The beach huts of Budleigh Salterton are an annual feature that line up in rows each year along the Promenade. It seems that they have been socially distanced in this Covid-19 year.

This creature is a Comma butterfly, not a colon or semi-colon or full stop! It certainly likes the flowers.

This was the first blackberry I have picked in 2020, and July has just started. It tasted lovely too.

Storm clouds were brewing as we wandered home. The contrast between sky and clouds struck me, especially with the roof tops in the foreground complete with gulls.

Budleigh Railway Line

The railway line running through Budleigh Salterton to Exmouth is long gone and is now a footpath and cycleway. The trees have taken over from the embankment shrubbery and this foxglove had a valiant attempt to emulate them.

Budleigh's old Granary

At the foot of Granary Lane is the granary that is now a private house. The main rooms are on the first floor because the house is on the flood plain when high tide coincides with a flooding River Otter.
