Budleigh stump

The stump of this tree was left when the tree was felled because it had very few leaves on two autumns ago. These shoots prove that there's life in it still.

Budleigh toad

A camouflaged toad hopping off the road. He was in the dry gutter but still very difficult to see. I took his photograph before he shuffled under the roadside foliage, out of sight.

Budleigh - Barley field

This field of barley was planted a few weeks ago and is now over a foot tall. Quite sufficient to hide the roe deer that was resting in today's hot sun. He was still keeping his eye open though.

An ever watchful tortoise looks southward over The Promenade of Budleigh Salterton. Unless a visitor raise his eyes he will miss the effect.

Budleigh Salterton

Budleigh Salterton had quite a number of hotels but since the railway was closed in the 60s a number had to change or closed. This was The Rosemullion Hotel which changed and is now flats and apartments.

A storn brewing for Budleigh Salterton

We've had a mixed bag of weather in Budleigh Salterton this year. Plenty of sunshine, plenty of dull days and some worse. In 2019 I took a picture that showed a storm brewing over the sea which landed on shore a bit later and wetted everything, spirits and enthusiasm also.

Exit gate from Tidwell Woods

The gates to Tidwell Woods were open so we entered to have a look around. We were quick and did not walk far because the gates are normally padlocked to keep people out.

Budleigh's swans

Ten Canada geese, a gull and two swans with their three cygnets on the River Otter as it nears Otter-mouth. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and we were all in "lockdown".

The Fir Trees

Otterton or Budleigh Salterton. These trees are mid way between the two and these cows and their young were having their fill of the lush grass in oblivion of the fact.

Budleigh Saltrerton - Park Lane

The gateposts to the non existent park on Park Lane. The dressed stone that was going to be used to build the Park Mansion, was left when the scheme was abandoned. The stone was salvaged and Monk's Thatch cottage was (allegedly) built with it. Waste not Want not. Funnily enough there are no hinge hooks, holes or anything else discernable that could be used to hang gates.

Cow parsley in Budleigh

On Park Lane I saw this unfolding nodule which would become another white crowned display of cow parsley in a day or two. If you look closely you will see five or more greenflies feeding on it.

Budleigh Salterton's Dark Lane

Dark Lane is cut deeply through rock to a depth of about 15 feet plus. When looking up one is amazed to see a fully grown tree clinging onto the edge of the precipice, it's roots gripping the rock face. The foliage makes the lane very dark.
