Lockdown at Budleigh The Coronavirus has caused Lockdown in Budleigh and this view of the Promenade shows how crowded it was the week before Easter. Normally there would be crowds of people taking the sun and fresh air together with the views, but here you can count the crowd on one hand. Kersbrook near Budleigh Salterton The rains have recently been quite frequent and heavy. Many fields are now flooded and the ground is saturated. The lane in this shot follows a stream that joins the Otter at the salt-marsh of Ottermouth. As you can see, the Kersbrook is now flooding the path making the field a tad damp! Budleigh bird nest This bird, I think it is a house sparrow, amazed me when it seemed to fly straight through a solid wall. Eventually I saw where it had flown from and took a shot of it the next time it emerged. I think it's a female and foraging for her chicks. Budleigh Promenade benches If you had been sitting on this bench when the cliff behind fell down then you wouldn't be smiling now! The Promenade footpath of Budleigh Although the road is called the Promenade, the footpath takes the same name as it passes to Otter Mouth, where the stand of fir trees can be seen. The Road changes to Coastguard Road as it climbs the hill towards the memorial cross at the top. The lamps light the footpath. The start of Budleigh's Promenade The white "octagon" building on the left is where Sir John Everett Millais stayed when he painted the famous picture, "The boyhood of Raleigh" and the Promenade starts there and passes to the right, in front of all the properties, ending at the foot of Coastguard Road to the east. Budleigh Salterton slide Budleigh Promenade passes beside a section of cliffs showing petrified plant roots. The recent downpours have loosened the red clay which has slipped onto the prom exposing features that resemble faces peering out. Budleigh Salterton Storm Dennis Look at the shade of horizon and sky, something is brewing. Dennis the menacing storm devastated other parts of England but in Devon it forced a few rivers to flood and rained persistently. We got off lightly in comparison.
