Budleigh Salterton's reed beds Believe it or not but the River Otter is virtually at the end here, about a quarter of a mile to it's sea outlet at Otter Mouth. December 2010 was paticularly cold and snow actually stayed on the beach a few days. The reeds here are covered in frost. Budleigh Salterton Salting Hill Salting Hilll gives access to the main carpark in Budleigh which itself gives access to the pebble beach, Ottermouth and the start of many walking routes leading to Otterton, East Budleigh, Colaton Raleigh, Sidmouth, Newton Poppleford, and many other villages and towns, Over the wall and under the tree on the right you can see an old "pill box" - a remnant of WW II. Budleigh Station Road Budleigh Salterton had a Railway until Dr. Beeching took it away in 1967. The Station and track were taken up and where the station once stood there is now this building behing the green fencing on the right. It's called Stanley Mews and is a Sheltered Housing scheme. Budleigh Salterton I was crossing The Otter River by the White Bridge when I heard the sound of air rushing through feathers. Without turning I knew the sound to be the regular beat of swans' wing tips. I turned and took this shot of two swans flying together up the river towards Otterton.
