About Arnside and Silverdale AONB

Arnside and Silverdale is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) situated in the North West of England, on the border between Cumbria and Lancashire.
It was designated in 1972 covers 29 miles (75km) square, being one of the smallest AONB's.

The area includes stunning limestone pavements and hills such as Arnside Knott and Warton Cragg, interspersed with grassland, and much of the area is made up of ancient deciduous woodland. The coastal area, including Morcambe Bay contains large areas of salt marsh and mud flats, and is an important feeding ground for birds. The reedbeds of RSPB Leighton Moss are home to many stunning birds, including the Marsh Harrier, the Bearded Tit, and the rare Bittern.
The area is also incredibly home to more than half of the flowering plant species of Britain, including the HIgh Brown Fritillary and the Lady's-Slipper Orchid.
