About Abberton Reservoir

Abberton Reservoir is a pumped storage freshwater reservoir in eastern England near the Essex coast, with an area of 700 hectares. Most of its water is pumped from the River Stour. It is the largest body of freshwater in Essex.

A wetland site of international importance for wildfowl, with up to 40,000 ducks, swans, and geese visiting each year. Enjoy walks, birdwatching, bird hides, a visitor centre, and a wild play area at this family-friendly reserve near Colchester.
