About Totton

Totton is a small town lying close to Southampton Water with easy access to the picturesque New Forest National Park, making it a desirable place to stay for anyone wishing to explore both coast and countryside. It was only during the second half of the 20th century that ponies ceased to wander through the town, these gentle creatures are now very firmly kept within the boundaries of the forest.

Visitors to Totton will find a selection of shops, pubs and cafe's. Of the town's attractions is the church which stands on Saxon foundations, but is mostly of the 13th century and Eling Tide Mill which was built in the 18th century, and is the only remaining tide mill still in operation in the country. Visitors to this lovely old building get to learn the history of the mill, of its restoration, watch flour being milled (times for this vary according to the tide), buy bread and biscuits made from the flour and enjoy a visit to the next-door heritage centre. There is also an on-site cafe serving teas, coffee and light refreshments.

Totton has many colourful sights, the most obvious being the superb yachts and small sea-going crafts plying in and out of Southampton Water.
