I finished my third and last test to confirm or not that i had Asthma.

My first visit in September,i was told i had Asthma after one test,i told the doctor i know i did not, that it had to be something else.he dismissed me,had a prescription filled for an inhaler, and off i went.

I came back in november ,(i wanted a second opinion)and saw the same doctor!,he did some tests and then said he could not find anything,I was told i needed to go to a specialist,i went yesterday, after two hours of testing,i was told i am normal and do not have asthma,i became furious with my doctor, who had no time for me and went to the specialist who told me that she had the results from my very first test in september, and it was fine ! No one told me that!,after 3 visits that cost a total of $100.00....PLEASE !!! if you think a doctor is wrong, see many more !!!!!

I'm sorry you have gone through such stress, Richard. I'm glad you trusted your gut feeling and went for a second opinion. And I'm glad you don't have asthma.

My husband goes to a Doctor associated with his place of employment. He has been having terrible ear problems. I was not satisfied with what they were telling him, so I made him an appointment with my Doctor (very thorough), and he has found the problem and working hard to sort it out. The other Doctor just sent him off with two or three prescriptions.

So yes, if your gut tells you something isn't right, never feel  embarrassed about getting a second or even third opinion.

Rhett, I am so sorry that you've had to suffer over the incompetence of your doctor. Perhaps it's time for a new GP?

I am glad you followed your gut instinct and didn't give up. As Sue said, don't ever feel embarrassed about getting other opinions. When it comes to your health you have to be pro-active.

I am glad you don't have asthma; it must be a relief to have that cleared up.

I'm very happy to hear you are ok!!! Doctor's bedside manners are extinct anymore. It's all about the Benjamins now.

Do find a new doctor!

Glad they have at last put your mind at rest - you always knew in your heart that you didn't have asthma and to prescribe inhalers when you haven't got it is terrible.

We have had similar problems in the past with doctors - one of my past GPs nearly killed me overprescribing my tablets and when I changed doctors I discovered that he must have changed the records as the dose on my file was different to what he had prescribed! By then I had no proof as I had thrown away the bottles. When I dislocated my knee the same doctor told me to drink a bottle of brandy and go to bed!!!!

After a bit of a laugh, I must admit that that is disgusting. The man (well, I guess I shouldn't presume your Doctor is a man, but something tell me...) was dismissing you and your injury      .

I think I'd say farewell to that Doctor.

I like your Dr's advice, Stephanie, but not if I'm sick or injured.  lol

I'm glad you got the correct diagnosis, Rick.  It's good that you went with your instinct about getting the wrong opinion from the first doctor.  Nobody knows you body better than you.

I remember once when I was 20 years old, I found a lump in my breast and I went to see a Dr. who was very patronizing, and gave me the "you don't need to know, just trust me, I'm the Dr." attitude.  He didn't think I should be worried about breast cancer because of my age at the time.  My mother died from breast cancer at age 42, so I was a little bit freaked out.  When I asked this Dr a question and he just patted my hand and said "don't worry," I reminded him that I was paying him, which meant he was working for me, and that I expected an answer.  He was a bit shocked that I was so assertive, but from then on, he answered my questions.
