Anyone interested in the Battle of Hastings 1066. On October 8th/9th/10th at Battle East Sussex there is a re-enactment of the battle plus loads of interesting things to do and see there over the three days.

A good day out for the whole family to enjoy.

You don't know how much I'd love to be there, Dave.

Do you know if there were any celestial events going on in 1066 that might have caused William to view it as a sign that the time was right to make his move?

Hi Ruth, Halleys Comet was seen in the sky, that can be seen on the Bayeaux Tapestry which chronicles the whole event of 1066. Celestial events played a great part in the Pagan/Christian Medievel period. I believe Comets were seen as portents of doom.......Certainly was in Harolds case, lol.

PS. Have updated on 'what is an Englishman' thread with a little more history on the subject in question.
