Mercury 7 astronaut Scott Carpenter in Denver after complications from a recent stroke. One of the original Mercury project astronauts, he was the 4th American in space and 2nd to orbit the earth in Aurora 7.
The sole remaining astronaut of the Mercury 7 group is now John Glenn, 92, who was the first to orbit earth in his capsule Friendship 7 before Carpenter's flight.
Thanks to Glenn, the first camera in space wasn't some Nikon or Hasselblad, but a Minolta Hi-Matic compact he smuggled aboard to get some photos of his 3 orbits. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:11th October 2013 10:51
