I can't believe the canny Scots will go for Independence, but wouldn't stand in their way if they decided it was best for them, just think of all the money we would save! lol

I personally believe it's only really about two 'gobby' people trying to make a name for themselves. What say you members, what difference do you think it might make if they did vote... Yes?

What might the Union Jack look like, and what will happen to the Nuclear deterrent, will they keep the pound (£) and Her Majesty the Queen? So many questions and I bet you will come up with more, so what is your opinion?

Are there any Scots looking in, what do you think?

Presumably the Union FLAG (it's only the Union JACK when on a ship) will just have the blue cross removed.

I heard on the news, they're keeping the Queen, staying on the flag, staying with the £, staying in NATO, just getting rid of the nuclear subs. Don't know how much is true.

So really they just want to run their own business?

Perhaps they will take responsibility for the cost involved, but guess who will keep paying under those circumstances?

Good old England!

I think Dave might be referring to removing the blue parts of the flag to thus remove the white cross of St. Andrew, to leave the red cross of St George and the diagonal red cross of St Patrick.

Wales wasn't included on the flag thanks to Henry VIII who joined Wales as a Principality, not a kingdom, thus Wales has never been included on the Union flag.

and if it was ever altered, just how many other flags around the world would have to alter too to accomodate a new design?  Even one US state would have to alter theirs too as it includes the Union flag---Hawaii.

If they decided to not to support the English pound as part of their currency, there is an anomoly with Scottish currency that would need resolving. The problem, as I see it, is their Pound notes issued by three Scottish banks. It's a legal currency but not legal tender in England, nor are they even in Scotland. Only coins are legal tender in Scotland.

The banks issuing all their Scottish paper money have to hold an equivalent amount of English money to back theirs. So, if Scotland decided to do their own thing with their own currency, and the Bank of England thus requested all the English money returned, what would the Scottish banks then use to back a new currency?

i think its best left as is with the currency and the flag situations.

We need to divide the land in to three areas :

 Tory Government of Chipping Norton.

SNP Government of Scotland.

Home Socialist Rule for everyone else.

Who would not want to be free of Dave ?, apart from his pals in Chipping Norton.

If you want a house to rent in Chipping Norton there could be one available soon when Reb takes up slopping out in Dykes Hotel.

LOL @ Ron...'Gobby' sums it up very well.

The Scottish Nationalist's White Paper states that the Bank of England will continue to be the 'lender of last resort' for an independent Scotland.

Recent history tells us that RBS needed rescuing with £45.5bn of equity capital from the UK Government (ie the UK Taxpayer). Is the UK taxpayer going to be asked to bale out a failed Scottish Bank in an independent Scotland ? The Nationalists seem to have assumed that we will. Are we that stupid ?

Report on RBS Failure

Crikey! 452 pages of heavy reading Edward and I really can't afford the time, but we'll keep paying, won't we? Isn't that what we 'Brits' do?

I reckon there will always be plenty of POE fodder whilst this sort of nonsense continues, it's b....y outrageous!

Ha Ha, Ron, yes that amounts to  £100m / page! the price of failure! Seriously though, I just quoted the report to authenticate the staggering sum that the UK taxpayer was landed with.
