I reckon all uf us here must be very envious of one lucky photographer today. Have you folk seen his shot and that he has been on the news with his pic. He took the shot, loaded onto the internet and overnight it became a sensation getting nearly a million views and that figure has gone even higher now. Oh , what was his pic if you have not seen it-  a greenwoodpecker in flight with a weasel riding piggyback !!! We can all dream of capturing such a shot.

Yes Vince, a fantastic shot and one that I am sure will never be caught on camera ever again!

And I agree with you James also, one very lucky Woodpecker because the Weasel is the quickest, most vicious of the species.

Anyway, well done to the photographer!

Typo corrected...

I saw the pic on the news yesterday evening, a brilliant one in a million shot. One lucky woodpecker too. I heard one wildlife reporter say that if weasels where the size of dog that they would kill everything.

It would be interesting to know how they were seperated--one bite off the Weasel is fatal.

Maybe it just lost its grip James ? It must have been quite a shock for it when the bird took off.

Usually one quick bite through the neck into the spinal chord is all that is needed, but I reckon it was more interested in not falling off than anything else for a moment or two, plus feathers are slightly different from rabbit fluff!!

Oh, so the woodpecker landed, my thought that the weasel fell off whilst the bird was in flight is totally wrong then. Still, one lucky woodpecker.
