About Taplow

Riverside resort dominated by palatial Cliveden, once the home of the famous Astor family and now run as a luxury hotel where guests are cosseted in the accepted manner of a grand country house.

Taplow itself is a joy to walk around there are many old interesting properties including handsome Georgian buildings. Taplow Court, a Victorian mansion fashioned in the Norman style was once the residence of Lord and Lady Desborough, the building is now beautifully restored and is used as the headquarters of a lay Buddhist organisation. Nashdom House, designed by Edwin Luytens for Princess Dolgorouki, is yet another beautiful landmark of the area. It was used as an abbey for a time but has since been refurbished and turned into comfortable apartments.

The River Thames is an important part of Taplow's landscape, the Thames path runs through here and tourists can often be seen walking the stretch from Maidenhead Bridge to Bray Lock at Taplow.

There has been a church in Taplow since the 13th century. The church dedicated to St. Nicholas has records of births, deaths and marriages relating to the early part of the 18th century. It also has exceptional stained glass windows from the 20th century.

For anyone wishing to explore a Buckinghamshire town rich in historic properties in a beautiful riverside setting, Taplow provides the perfect destination. It has remained largely unspoilt with a lovely peaceful atmosphere, as such it is ideal for a relaxing romantic weekend, or for a longer stay when you may take in the delights of Maidenhead and other surrounding attractive towns and villages.
