About Pentewan

Pentewan nestling at the foot of a steep sloping hill was once an active place of the china clay industry. During the 19th and 20th-century it was a small port from which china clay was shipped to distant shores. Its dock closed down shortly after the First World War and its harbour is now home to several species of waterfowl including ducks, swans and moorhens who patrol the harbour with gay abandon.

Set amidst enchanting countryside, Pentewan has caravan and camping sites making it a popular resort for families. It has a fine sandy beach which is ideal for beach-games, swimming, fishing and other watersports. For those who do not want to spend all there time relaxing on a beach there is the enchanting Lost Gardens of Heligan and short drive away is the much acclaimed Eden Project. The fascinating town of St. Austell lies to the north of Pentewan and to the south is quaint Mevagissey with a nearby museum where you can learn of the myths, legends and stirring history of the Cornish coast.

Pentewan has a delightful mix match of properties dotted around the harbour and in the lanes and villages beyond the beach-side caravan site. The land above the coast is mainly agricultural, fresh green fields are grazed by sheep, cattle and horses are interspersed in paddocks surrounding stately old farmhouses. Hedgerows are full of wild grasses and fragile wild flowers. From the hills and cliffs above Pentewan there are magnificent views across the rolling ocean entering St.Austell Bay towards Fowey.
