About Seaton

Seaton is set at the mouth of the River Seaton on the edge of a beautiful deep wooded valley backed by glorious Cornish countryside. The holiday town we see today has a mainly sandy beach backed by shingle behind which is a holiday camp from which holiday makers enjoy fine sea views.

Well sign-posted is the narrow lane leading to Murayton where the famous Monkey Sanctuary was opened more than 40 years ago by Leonard Williams. Here children and adults enjoy seeing woolly monkeys roaming free and behaving much as they would in their far-away natural habitat.

Nearby Downderry has a superb sand and shingle beach that is mentioned in the Good Beach Guide. The village itself appears as if squeezed between steeply rising banks, giving shelter from strong northerly winds. The usually mild climate encourages the growth of many beautiful wild plants, palm trees and other sub-tropical flowers flourish adding interest to the already stunning scenery.

Both Seaton and Downderry are popular centres for swimming, surfing, sea fishing, and sailing. Seaton Country park offers hours of pleasure, it can be found between Seaton and Downderry and, when the tide is out it is possible to walk along the beach to Looe. There are excellent views across Whitsand Bay to Rame Head.
