Soho Shed

This is the oldest remaining industrial building in Shildon. Built in 1826 it was originally constructed for an engineering company before being bought by the railways. It was used in the 1800's for painting engines. They could get out more painted engines than anyone else after using the same principle as the Roman's with the raised floor on stones which enabled them to blow hot air from fires underneath, distribute the hot air and dry the paint quicker. In later years it was used as the British Rail Boxing Acadamy, and did turn out National Champions.
