Bridge House Ambleside

Bridge House was built across Stock Beck in order to avoid land taxes. n Originally an apple store for Ambleside Hall it did at one point in it's history provide a home for a family with 6 children!! Possibly the most photographed building in the Lake District. In 1926 a group of Ambleside residents bought it and got it back into good repair eventually handing it over to the care of the National Trust. In 1946 it became the NT's first information and recruitment centre and is now a rather cramped shop for the National Trust.
