About Dove Cottage

Dove cottage in the Lake District is the former home of the poet William Wordsworth and is where he wrote much of his famous poetry such as ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, ‘Ode: Intimations of Immortality’, My Heart Leaps Up’ and also parts of his autobiography epic ‘The Prelude’.

It is a Grade 1 listed building and remains much unchanged since Wordsworth’s day, having been acquired by the Wordsworth Trust in 1890.

Some 70,000 people visit Dove Cottage each year.
