If you happen to visit Keswick in Cumbria do not miss out on Whinlatter Forest Park, for this superb gift of nature is a real treat for all the family.
The park lies in a superb setting overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake and picturesque Lorton Valley. It offers a year round programme of events for all ages, and for visitors who prefer a little gentle guidance there are trails to follow including children's nature trails. Along these you will see fantastic sculpture and various reconstructions to do with forest life. There is a fascinating reconstruction of a Badger hide and other similar experiences.
Whinlatter is an ideal place for bird-watching, it takes part in the Lake District Osprey project, and for youngsters there is an adventure playground.
There are pretty, sheltered glades where you can enjoy a picnic, and if you are feeling energetic you could try tackling the permanent orienteering course.
