About Little Langdale

Little Langdale is a delightful hamlet in a hauntingly beautiful area lying above the Furness Fells. Here walkers enjoy a calm, quiet serenity, for the hamlet possess only a few scattered cottages and a pub.

Blea Tarn lies like beaten pewter at the head of Little Langdale Valley, this is a glorious tarn to stroll around, it is bordered by tall trees and grassy rushes, beyond the tarn lies a picturesque mountain landscape. Blea Tarn House sits close by, this was built of stone in around the 1600's. The famous poet Wordsworth wandered these parts, he mentions Blea Tarn House in his book covering his journey around the lakes, referring to it as "one bare dwelling" today, it remains very much the same.

The valley is very pastoral, it is barely two miles from the meeting place of the old borders of three counties, these being Cumberland, Westmoorland and Lancashire.

There is a grandeur about this region, Little Langdale lies between dramatic Coniston and the more gentle scenery of Grassmere and Rydal.
